Cost - $200 for all day Saturday 19th, low light photography the night of June 19th and Sunday morning June 20th.

Join us on a wildflower and bird photography workshop June 19 and 20. You will learn techniques used to photograph wildflowers and how to locate and photograph bird at there nesting site. We will camp at the campground on the summit of Yuba pass. There is an abundance of both wildflowers and nesting birds. As a bonus, if you choose to camp with us we will share the techniques used to capture low light images. Including star trail, star stills and painting with light. You will be responsible for your own lodging and food. If you choose not to camp with us there is plenty of lodging in nearby Sierra city.

Prerequisite: A SLR camera with manual controls, working knowledge of your camera, F-stops & shutter speeds. To learn this information we recommend taking: Digital 101 or Photo Basics 1.

This class provides a great foundation for new to intermediate digital camera users.

Don't be intimidated by the word "digital." We can show you how fun and easy digital photography is! This hands-on class will cover the process of digital photography from beginning to end.

  • Using Program instead of Auto
  • Understanding Scene Modes
  • When to use Shutter and Aperture Priority

Into SLR Class
(1.5-2 hours)

This lecture based class will revolve around the Rebel series of cameras. It will have a basic 'tour' of the camera, where buttons are and such with a brief insight into the menu system. It covers basic photography concepts such as Apertures and Shutter Speeds and how to put them to use using the exposure mode dial using P, TV,AV, and M. It goes into the camera's auto focus system as well as exposure compensation and how to read and utilize the histogram.

Intermediate SLR Class
(2 Hours)
1-3pm

This lecture based class will revolve around the 20D, 30D, 40D, 50D, 5D ect...It covers what the intro class covers in a slightly different way and will also include more information on flash, metering, digital aspects such as white balance and resolution. It will NOT contain a 'tour' of the camera or the menu system.

Advanced Flash Technique
(1 Hour)
4-5pm

This lecture based class will teach how to utilize the speed light system along with your camera operations to make flash photography look more natural. Will cover exposure modes with flash, light modification, and wireless flash.

The RAW advantage
(1 Hour)
5-6pm
$20.00

This lecture based class will teach all the obvious and not so obvious advantages of the RAW file, along with a live demonstration of the software 'Digital Photo Professional' that comes with every Canon SLR purchase.

Digital Photography 101: Point and Shoot

If you're new to digital cameras, this is the class for you.

Don't be intimidated by your digital camera. In this class you'll see how fun and easy digital photography can be. Bring your camera with you (battery should be fully charged) this class is hands on.

What you'll learn:

  • Basic features of your camera: what the icons mean, what features your camera has and how to access them
  • Tips to get the most out of your camera & take better pictures
  • Downloading: how to get the pictures out of your camera and into your computer; and learn where they go and how to find them!
  • E-mailing: share your pictures with friends and family

Introduction to Sports Photography

This three-session class will take you through the fundamentals of capturing great sports images. You will learn the basic rules and techniques of sports photography that hold true from AYSO Soccer to the NFL. Best of all, you do not need expensive lenses or the latest in digital technology to begin to excel in this challenging field.

Along with class lecture and slide presentations, you will be asked to complete photo assignments that will be critiqued to provide a positive hands-on learning experience.

Whether your interest is to develop the skills to take exciting photos of your athletes or to start the path to a sports photography career, this is the class for you.

Skill Level and Equipment: Basic knowledge of ISO, shutter speed and aperture, SLR digital camera, basic lens, telephoto helpful but not needed.

Digital Photography 102: Beyond Basics

This class will teach advanced shooting techniques available only with Digital SLR or Point & Shoot cameras with manual controls. Students must have an understanding of their camera; it is recommended that they take the Digital 101 class offered at Gordon's.

- Learn how to use auto exposure braketing to create high dynamic range HDR images
- Using selective focus for controlling and increasing a photo's impact
- Advanced techniques for improving the use of flash
- Introduction to the basics of using camera RAW
- Using custom WB as a filter for creativity

Create-it Photography

This 6 night class is full of tips and techniques to help you create photos on a higher level by (1) classroom lectures to give you a foundation (2) photo assignments for "hands on" learning and (3) photo critiques give you feedback and develop your "photographer eye."

Learn how to:

  • Control and capture motion, movement and sharpness with shutter speeds
  • Get creative, artsy photos by combining shutter, aperture and ISO
  • Control the focus of your photos by using depth of field
  • Know when not to trust your light meter and how to get a great shot without it
  • Pick the right lenses and filters to create the shot you want
  • And you'll LOVE the field trip where you can ask questions as you shoot!
 

This class does not teach you how to use your camera, but how to create great photos with ANY camera. You will get the most out of this class if you have a camera capable of manual settings to adjust aperture and shutter speeds.
